History of LCS and QLC in particular:

1963 – 1964
On 3 August 1963, the Lutheran Church of Malaya was formally constituted with Paul Alberti elected as its first president. He served 9 months before retiring in 1964.

In 1963, the Board of World Mission of the United Lutheran Church in America approved funds for the Malaya mission to purchase a tract of land in Queenstown as a site for a church. Through the efforts of a member of the Batak congregation, the Lutheran mission was able to get one of the 6 religious sited located in Queenstown.

Rev. John R. Nelson who was serving in Lutheran Church of our Redeemer (LCOR) started the evangelistic work in Queenstown. He was assisted by the Pastor Yang Tao Tung who started the Chinese ministry.

1965
In March, Mr Tse Hung Chaen was assigned as an evangelist in the Chinese language work. The Chinese language service began in the home of Mr Yew Keng Seng. English language service began in the home of Mr P S Chong. Sunday schools began in both languages.

Loke Hoy San, an LCMS student studying in Trinity Theological College was assigned to help with the ministry in Queenstown.

1966
On 13th of March, Pastor John R Nelson was assigned as worker-in-charge. The new buildings were completed and on 10th April the first baptism were performed. Seven children and six adults were received through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism.

The building was dedicated to the glory of God on 1st May 1966. On the 30th October the first Church Council was founded.

In addition to the regular worship service, Sunday school and weekday programme, a number of other ministries were started to serve the neighborhood. Among these were sewing, cooking and language classes, The Boys’ Brigade and a recreational programme.

1967
At the Fourth Annual Convention from 29 to 30 July 1967, The Lutheran Church in Malaya voted to change its name to the Lutheran Church in Malaysia and Singapore (LCMS). This was officially gazetted on 28 September 1967 by the Registrar of Societies, Malaysia.

Queenstown Lutheran Church held her first AGM and adopted the LCMS Constitutions. Two new workers were added – Mr Loke Hoy San (ordained on 11th August 1968) in the Chinese language and Bill Bolm, who began the Boys’ Brigade in Queenstown Lutheran Church shortly after his arrival.

Pastor Noel Anderson first came to Queenstown as a Parish Youth worker in 1967 but upon his completion of his M.A. from the Lutheran School of Theology in 1972, he was called to be a licensed pastor. He was ordained in April 1979.

1968
The Queenstown Child Play Center began with two volunteer workers, Mr. Philip Neo and Miss Victoria Basham.

1970
Tetsuo Shiratori from Japan was invited to continue the work of Bill Bolm for 1 year in the area of sports, drama, youth, visitation and tutoring programme.

Rev. Tong Chiu Wing was assigned to pastor the Chinese Congregation. He served faithfully until his migration to Canada in 1986

1974
The appointment of President was changed to Bishop and Rev. Carl Fisher continued as Bishop until 1977.

1977
Rev. Peter Foong became the first Malaysian Bishop. Dr. Myron Danford, a retired Lutheran Pastor from LCA, came as substitute for Rev. Anderson for the period he studied in the Lutheran School of Theology.

1979
Rev. Noel Anderson completed his studies and was reassigned back to Queenstown where he served until 1986 when he was assigned to Yishun as Pastor in charge.

1985
Rev. Daniel Chong was elected second Bishop of LCMS.

1986
Rev. Melvin Lofgren served as pastor of the English congregation until their retirement in 1988.

Rev. Chen Tian Nan commenced his ministry in the Chinese Congregation on 1 March 1986. He served faithful until his resignation in 1993.

1988
Rev. Edmund Lim was assigned as Pastor of the English Congregation where he served until he left for further studies in Concordia, Fort Wayne in 1993.

1993
Rev. Gideon Chang was elected third Bishop of LCMS. Rev. Terry Kee was assigned to Queenstown. He served until 1996 when he and his wife Sally were send by the Lutheran Church in Malaysia and Singapore as missionaries to Thailand. Rev. Thomas Schaeffer assisted in the ministry of Queenstown part-time until his return to America in 1998. Rev. Peter Chong served as pastor of the Chinese congregation from 1993 until 1997.

1994
In April 1994, QLC started the Care Group Ministry.

1996
Rev. William Chang was assigned to Queenstown upon his completion of his studies in Australia. He served until 1998 when he was re-assigned to Yishun.

1997
The Lutheran Church in Singapore was established and Rev. John Tan was elected first Bishop of LCS.

Rev. David Cheah served as pastor of the Chinese Congregation from 1997 until 31 December 2005.

1998
Pastor Soh Guan Kheng was assigned to pastor the English Congregation of Queenstown. He served faithfully until he left for further study in Australia in 2006.

1999
LCS joined the Lutheran World Federation (LWF).

2001
In November 2001, QLC started the Social Ministry.

2006
Rev. How Chin Yong was assigned to serve as pastor of the Chinese Congregation in January 2006 and Rev. Terry Kee returned to Pastor the English Congregation as of 1 March 2006.

2008
The leaders of both the Chinese and English congregation jointly embarked on the Intentional Disciplemaking Church process with the IDC team of the Navigators Singapore.

2009
Rev. Terry Kee was elected as Bishop of Lutheran Church in Singapore (LCS) and Rev. Lim Kim Hock was assigned to pastor the English Congregation of QLC.
